Not your typical tourist To Do list, this is the LOCAL'S list of good things we tell our friends to check out while they're visiting our beautiful island.

1. Sunrise at Haleakala
Besides a camera, be sure to bring a heavy jacket or blanket or you'll freeze your _____ off!

2. Breakfast at Kula Lodge
Perfect before or after your drive up the volcano.

3. Lunch at Class Act
The Maui Culinary Arts Academy's award-winning fine dining restaurant at the Maui Community College is known as Maui's best kept secret.

4. Waterfalls on the way to Hana
Stop and admire nature in all of its glory. Plus the breaks help avoid car sickness along the long and winding road to the other side of paradise.

5. 'Iao Needle
Yeah, it's touristy but still worth the drive into the cool lush valley. Look for JFK's profile!

6. Swinging Bridges
Waihee Valley. Although you have to pay a small fee to cross private property, the hike through forest and thickets of bamboo and ginger to reach the plank and cable bridges over the stream and fresh-water pool is fun and different.

7. Whale Watching
If you're on the island between November and April, be sure to look out to sea for the tell tale water spouts and breaches.

8. Wailuku Heights Panarama
Drive to the top of Kuikahi Drive in Wailuku and turn around. A birdseye view of Maui's bi-coastal shores to the north and south. The sprawling central valley plain below. Majestic Haleakala directly in front. It'll take your breath away.

9. Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm
Take the popular Garden Tea Tour that includes lavender hot tea, homemade scones, an orientation on lavender, tour of the garden and studio gift shop.

10. Maui's Winery
Take the spectacular drive upcountry to Maui's only commercial winery at Ulupalakua Ranch. Wine tasting, tours. Great way for locals to get away too!

11. Cinema under the Stars
Gotta catch a film festival selection at Maui's only open air screening at Wailea during the summer months.

12. Swap Meet
Every Saturday, join the crowds at this popular Kahului flea market to find everything from fresh produce to crafts to clothing.
